Professor Kevin Blackburn invited me to give a presentation at a conference for secondary-school and junior-college teachers. Presenting in the panel on Japanese imperialism, I advocated the use of social history, personal stories, and oral histories in the classroom so that students can see the multiple power structures--gender, generations, locations, etc, alongside with imperialism. I wish we had had more time to interact with teachers, but I had fun listening to other presentations and sharing my thought.
